Start your day right with a delicious Turmeric Porridge

If you plan a ski tour oder a hiking day you should start with the right breakfast.
Select easily digestible carbohydrates to eat before exercise so you don’t feel sluggish. One of the best breakfasts before a day spend outside is an oatmeal also called porridge.

There are many several reasons for that. I’ll show you some of them:

Oatmeal is extremely delicious! 🙂

You can make a million different types of it.

They are a very good source of fiber and are high in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Due to their beneficial health effects, such as lowering blood sugar and cholesterol levels, oats have gained considerable interest as a health food.

Oats are very low in sugar.

Studies have confirmed that oats can lower cholesterol levels, which should reduce the risk of heart disease and oats have also been claimed to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes.

I think that are enough reasons to add oatmeal to your diet, right? 🙂
Besides these benefits it is also super easy to prepare and you don’t need much time. It’s the perfect breakfast when you’re on the road. And especially in winter, a hot porridge, which warms you from inside out, is the perfect start for your day.

Here is one of my favorite porridge recipe:

Porridge with turmeric

100g Oats

300-400ml Water or plant based, sugar free Milk

1 Ripe Banana, crushed

1/2 Apple or Pear, cut into little chunks

A hand full of Nuts, chopped

1/2 Teaspoon ground Cinnamon

1/2 Teaspoon Turmeric

2-3 Dates, cut into little pieces

1 Tbsp Coconut Oil

1 Teaspoon Honey (optional), if you use a plant based milk I think its sweet enough

A hand full of Cacao Nibs (optional)

2 Tbsp. Coconut Oil for the Sweet Potato slices

Put the coconut oil into a saucepan and roast the apple chunks, the nuts and the spices (cinnamon & turmeric) for a few minutes.

Add the water or milk and the oats and let cook for about 5 minutes while frequently stirring. If it gets too dry, add more water/milk.

Finally add the banana and the dates and stir again. Once it’s all mixed, pour into a bowl and garnish with your favorite toppings.
