EASY, HOMEMADE ENERGY BARS FOR YOUR NEXT HIKING TRIP

Energy bars are one of the most popular hiking foods, because they’re easy to pack and super light. They give you a quick delicious boost of energy.

There is only one problem.
Most of the store-bought options are quite pricey, they contain tons of sugar and have added ingredients you can’t even pronounce. To be honest, they are anything but healthy.

The solution is to make your own energy bars! This way you control what goes into them. What you want are all of the macronutrients and a variety of vitamins and minerals without all of the added sugar and additives. Read on to learn how to make easy, nutritious and tasty do-it-yourself energy bars.
This carbohydrate-rich bar is packed full with nuts, seeds, dried fruits, and oats. They make the ideal to-go hiking snacks.

There are many different ways to make your own energy bars, so be creative and find out which combination you like most. Here is what I came up with:

The main ingredients:

14 Dates, pitted

100g Oats

50g Desiccated Coconut, unsweetened

A handful of Nuts

3 Tbsp Coconut Oil, melted

Optional:

A handful of Goji berries

2 Tbsp Cacao Nibs

1 Tbsp Hemp Seeds

1 Tbsp Chia seeds

(if you like it very sweet, put some Honey in it)

Preparation:

Combine all ingredients in a powerful blender and mix until you get the consistency you like. Then press the mixture into a pan and put it into the fridge for at least 3 hours (better overnight).

After that cut the chilled dough into bars. Store them in the fridge for several weeks.

You can make them also super easy with just three ingredients: dates, nuts and coconut oil. The dates are important cause they act as a binder and also sweeten the bars without needing additional sugar.
